Preventative Care

Cleanings: Most patients require cleanings at least twice a year. Cleanings are where dental health begins. A hygienist will remove disease‑causing plaque and calculus from your teeth, especially in hard‑to‑reach areas near your gums and in the back of your mouth.

Digital X‑Rays: Most patients require digital X‑rays at least once a year. Our office uses digital X‑rays to reveal signs of disease not visible to the naked eye. These X‑rays are an indispensable tool to diagnose tooth decay, gum disease, bone density, bone volume, and tumors.

Oral Cancer Screenings: Oral cancer screenings are a routine part of every exam at our office. Dr. Sherman will perform a quick and painless examination of your mouth, lips, tongue, and neck. Early detection and treatment of oral cancer leads to better outcomes.

Sealants: These invisible plastic coatings fill the tiny grooves in back teeth so they do not become havens for bacteria. Sealants prevent cavities from forming and the need for fillings in the future.

Fluoride: Fluoride makes teeth stronger and more decay‑resistant. It can even reverse tiny cavities that are starting to form on your teeth. If you are not getting enough fluoride from other sources, we can apply it to your teeth directly at the office.

Nightguards: A nightguard is a plastic device placed on top of your upper or lower teeth to alleviate the symptoms of grinding and clenching. A nightguard reestablishes natural space to help prevent tooth fracture and straining your jaw muscles. You’ll sleep better with this customized device.

Mouthguards: Athletic mouthguards are designed to absorb and distribute the forces of impact and minimize traumatic injury to both the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. The best ones are custom‑made for your mouth.
